Have you tried it, I mean Green Mango Shake or Smoothie? It does not sound right for some, since we are all used to having the ripe mango shake! But it tastes really good especially if you like sour fruits. Back in the Philippines, I grew up eating fruits after our lunch. Maybe that will explain why I am not a chocolate person. I prefer to eat fruits instead. I remember when I was younger, after we have a pouring rain, mangoes would fall from the tree. And as soon as the rain stopped we will go to our neighbor’s place and picked them up. It was green and crunchy, they call it in Tagalog “manibalang.” One of my playmates told me to try dipping it on sugar instead of salt, and it does counteract the tartness of the green mangoes.
Green Mango Shake or Smoothie was introduced in 1990s, I remember ordering it at Max’s everytime. I rarely see mangoes here that resembles or tastes like Philippine Mango. The closest is what they call Ataulfo mango here from Mexico, but they are smaller than the Philippine variety and they are always ripe when I see them at the store. Today, luckily I spotted some green mangoes that are bigger and can’t wait to try it. A day later, they softened a bit, as I peel them it is yellow green in color. Have to work fast and make a green mango shake or smoothie before they ripened on me. The recipe is here if you want to try it! This mango shake tastes amazing being sweet with the punch of sourness to it.
