I know most of us Filipinos know how to cook hotdog and egg and garlic rice which we often called Hotsilog. It could mean hotdog with fried egg and fried rice or just plain steamed rice. This recipe you can prepare so easily for breakfast or you can eat anytime of the day when your craving kicks in. I am sure the kids will like it and it is ready in minutes. Now, Philippine hotdogs are colored red in comparison with other hotdogs in the market which have that orange brown color. Taste comparison ours is sweeter and juicier not as saltier.
Here is the way I prepare them, I do not like the red hotdog staining our food or plate or egg as much. So as soon as I get it out of the fridge, I put it in running water till it runs clear. Or sometimes I just soak it in 2 cups of water till water is pink or reddish in color, then discard the water. Preparing the hotdogs you can cut a slit on the side or if you have the jumbo sizes, I cut it diagonally so it becomes bite size. If you have the bite size, I usually cut a slit on both ends. Doing this, kind of let the juice seeps out as cook them.
To cook hotdogs, I put 1 tbsp. water on a pan and put the hotdogs in, let the steam cook it a bit on a medium flame. When all the water is gone, I add 1 tbsp. oil and stir fry it for a minute or two. Do not overcook it, it will dry out. To prepare garlic rice, in a pan put 3 tbsp. oil then add the 5 cloves minced garlic and sauté till golden brown in color. After which, add your 3 cups of left over rice(day old rice). Season with salt to your taste. Then, don’t forget to cook your egg either scrambled or sunny side up or even poach them. Arrange them in a plate and serve while still hot. Enjoy!
